6/15 Redfish Coach Update

Dear Redfish Families,

It’s hard to believe we are already down to our final two weeks of the season! This summer has flown by, and we have truly loved getting to know your swimmers, watching them grow, and seeing their confidence and skills improve. We are excited for our last home meet and for CHAMPS right around the corner!

As we head into this week, here is our coaching focus:

  1. We are still seeing DQs in breaststroke and in all stroke finishes, so we will continue to work on legal technique and clean finishes.
  2. We will be emphasizing what "racing" really means—both in technique and in mindset—to help swimmers feel prepared and confident.
  3. We will continue to work on starts and turns with our older swimmers. We saw GREAT improvement in this area at the Twisters meet!
  4. We will also focus on sportsmanship, cheering for each other, and focusing on what each swimmer is doing as an individual to support the team. Swimming is a unique sport in that it is competitive both as an individual and as a team. When swimmers are not positive about themselves, that can hurt not only the swimmer, but also the team. This includes being overly competitive in our age groups for events and relay spots. EVERY Redfish team member is valuable and we will help them choose some personal and swimming goals this week. :-)

To make the most of this work, attending practice as consistently as possible is very important. Morning practices are preferred because swimmers are with their age groups, we have the most lanes, and we have the most coaches available. If you must attend PM practices, please sign up using the link provided. Lane space and coaching coverage are limited in the afternoons. It is possible that your swimmer could be turned away for being too late or not signing up in time.

A reminder that practice times are the start times. Please arrive early so swimmers are ready to get in right away. We have had many late arrivals—especially in the afternoons—and this cuts into the quality coaching time your swimmers deserve.

Finally, PM practices should only be used when you cannot attend any AM practices. Doubling up is not allowed.

Reminder: Board Nominations Due Today, June 15th!

We are thrilled to share that the Redfish Leadership Committee is seeking enthusiastic parent volunteers to join the Board for the 2027 season!

All Board positions are open for election each year, and our current board members are excited to mentor new volunteers by welcoming parents into co-board roles for 2027. This is an amazing opportunity to get involved, support the team, and help shape future seasons.

If you'd like to be considered for a Board position, please submit your Letter of Intent today. We can’t wait to see who steps up to help lead our incredible Redfish community.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you need anything or have any questions! See you all on the pool deck!!

GooooOOO Redfish!
